Cheese Bread Loaf

This is an easy recipe we like for eating dinner in front of the TV. Like most of my recipes, it's easily adaptable.

Ingredients

  • 1 stick butter
  • 3 loaves French bread (I use Pillsbury)
  • 2 cups Mozzarella cheese (or any Italian blend)
  • 1/2 package pepperoni (chopped)
  • garlic to taste

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Melt the butter.
  3. Take a glass pie dish and spray with nonstick spray.
  4. Cut French bread into 1 inch chunks.
  5. Layer first loaf in bottom of glass pie plate.
  6. Brush bread with butter, then sprinkle on garlic, a layer of pepperoni, and 1/3 of the cheese.
  7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for two more layers.
  8. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes or until golden brown.

Variations

  • The original recipe I adapted was just the bread and TexMex cheese. That is also good, but it's not as much of a meal.
  • Serve with melted butter or my basic spaghetti sauce for dipping.
  • Experiment with different cheeses and meats. Shredded chicken or seasoned ground beef would work well with TexMex cheeses. Use chili powder or taco seasoning instead of garlic and omit the butter.
