Candy, New Jersey Girl

Candy

Hello! My name is Candy. Me and my littermates were left when we were only one month old in a box by the side of a lonely road out in the Maryland countryside. It was very scary for us because we had no mommy cat or humans to take care of us. I had to walk over a mile before I found a human to give me something to eat. By this time I had become very skinny, had an eye infection, and had developed a horrible respiratory infection that made it very hard for me to breathe. Yet I was only six weeks old. The human I found later said that she had seen two different little kitten bodies, about my own size, near that box by the side of the road. They had both obviously been hit by cars. Mommy says that I was able to survive back then because I am "determined", that's a fancy word for stubborn.

The first human that I found was actually trying to get rid of me! Her niece and nephew with their little human kids were coming over that day and she was very busy getting ready for them. I looked like a diseased lump of fur stretched over little bones, and she did not want to deal with me at the time. She was also afraid that I might get hurt by the dogs in her back yard. She gave me some food and then put me on the other side of a huge fence, hoping that I would find someone else to take care of me. I promptly climbed back over and the fence, and spent the afternoon playing with the little niece and nephew kids. Since she could not get rid of me, the human then found a place away from her dogs to keep me, and took me to the vet the next day.

The lady that found me then told my Aunt Donna about me who told my Mommy. Mommy then drove down from New Jersey to pick me up. She brought me back to our home and my new brother Coal, who was an eight-month old kitten at the time. Mommy, Coal and me have been together ever since.
