CC in Burtonsville, Maryland
Hello! My name is C.C., which is short for Chincoteague Cat. (You’ll understand the name after I tell my story.) I am the cute, black-and-white, male kitty in the photo. The big ginger cat is my big brother, Bingley. I also share my house with two female cats, Tiger and Darcy. They aren’t very nice to me. Oh, and I also have two wonderful humans, Barbara and Kathleen. They are the ones who rescued me, like they’ve rescued all their cats. We all live in Burtonsville, Maryland. I was born sometime around March 2003 in an old, abandoned gas station in Chincoteague, Virginia. My feline mom was feral, which means she didn’t have a human to take care of her. She did the best she could to take care of me and my littermates, but somehow my siblings accidentally got locked in a room at the gas station and they died. One day in May, a kind lady discovered our plight, and she caught my mom and me and took me to another lady who takes care of all the abandoned cats in Chincoteague. She also owns a store where she sells all kinds of neat stuff, like artwork and collectibles. One Wednesday, Barbara and Kathleen came to the store. I was in a kitty carrier, very frightened and missing my mom very much. The cat rescue lady wasn’t sure about my health, so I couldn’t play with the litter of younger kittens that she also had in the store. Barbara got permission to take me out of the carrier, and she sat with me on her lap. She asked the cat rescue lady what was going to happen to me. The rescue lady said she had more than 30 cats at home so she couldn’t take me, so I was going to have to go back to the gas station to fend for myself. Barbara was so sad, but she and Kathleen talked and they said if a vet gave me a clean bill of health, they would adopt me. The vet came on Friday and said I was healthy. (He comes every Friday with his special van to help the rescue lady take care of all the cats she finds.) I had to stay with her until Sunday, when Barbara and Kathleen left their motel to drive back home to Maryland. They put me in a box with a special blanket and toy from the rescue lady, but I sat on Kathleen’s lap most of the way home. In my new house, I had to stay in a room by myself for a couple of days, but then I got to come out. Bingley loved me right away. He’s three years older than me. He taught me all about my new home and family. We spend time together on the deck, watching birds. I like being outside, but I’m only allowed on the deck so I won’t get lost or hurt. My favorite spot at home to sleep is under Barbara and Kathleen’s bed because I feel safe there. I am so happy these nice women rescued me. And I love my big kitty brother! |
