I was the littlest of a litter of kittens, and one day, my brothers and sisters started disappearing. People would come and they'd take them away. My mom-cat told me that pretty soon, I'd have to go too, even though I wasn't old enough to understand (I was only about 5 weeks old). She said it was better than if they couldn't find a home for me, because then I'd have to go to the shelter…and that meant I'd probably go over the Rainbow Bridge to Lady Bast way sooner than a kitty should have to. Well, sure enough, a few days later, a man and a woman showed up. By then, I was the only one left, besides mom-cat. The woman gently picked me up and held me to her chest, and I suddenly felt that this was my forever-mommy and that she'd never let anything bad happen to me. I bit her necklace, and then meowed at her, and she looked at the man and said, "We have to take her." Well, then comes the real scary part-they put me in a jail box, and took me away from mom-cat. I cried and cried because I didn't realize that going to a forever home meant leaving mom-cat. So the woman put the jail box on her lap, and the moon was shining through the window in the top of the car, and the light splashed on me and I got real quiet. My new mommy Yasmine looked at me and said, "Sam-look, the moon! She's the "cat in the moon!" I didn't know till later that Mommy had a vision earlier and kept hearing that she should look for the ‘cat in the moon'…but there I was! So she and Daddy named me Luna, after the Moon Goddess. They call me their problem child, because I was taken away from my mom-cat too young. I don't like my sister Tara and used to hit her a lot until they put me on a medicine that mellowed me out a little. But when we moved up to the new house, they put Tara in a different room and so I don't get so upset and don't have to take that medicine anymore. I like Keeter and Meerclar, but they're more best-buddies. Mostly, I want to be near Mommy-I don't really like sharing her that much, if you want to know the truth. Mommy taught me how to kiss-I press my lips against her lips, and then I press the top of my head against her lips, when I want petted and loved. And I love kitty treats and we play fetch with them, except I don't bring them back, I just eat them. I just turned 11-I was born in 1993, and my hip hurts sometimes because I fell off a dresser a few years ago and sprained my hind end, but over all, I'm a very happy kitty. I make sure Daddy knows that Timmy fell down the well and took the can opener with him, when it's time for dinner, and I like to go into the bathroom and meow real loud and make Mommy come pick me up. And sometimes I snuggle with my sisters Keeter and Meerclar, but I especially love sleeping on my blankie-Daddy thinks it's his jacket, but he really knows it's my blankie. My mommy writes books, and in one of her books, she based a kitty on me! The kitty's name is Samantha, though, and has kittens of her own, but she's a calico like me and Mommy told me that it's really me in literary disguise! So I'm kind of famous. And my picture is in one of my Auntie Amy's books, so Mommy is pretty proud of me. And that's how I came home with Mommy and Daddy all those years ago, and that's why I'm the Cat in the Moon. |
