The Original Meerclar
The Current Meerclar I've got a more complicated rescue story than a lot of kitties. See, I came down to be with Mommy twice. The first time, I was a Russian Blue, and Mommy found me in the animal shelter. I only had two more days before they were going to make me go over the Rainbow Bridge. When Mommy came into the big room where we were all in jail, I started to purr and look at her and meow, and she came over and said what a beautiful cat I was, even though she was looking for a kitten and I was six months old by then. My mommy and daddy had to give me away because they couldn't take me to their new home, so they decided it was easier to put me in jail rather than find a place that would accept me. Mommy came back the next day because she said she couldn't forget my face, and she took me home with her and named me after a cat-goddess in a fantasy novel. She had Circe at that time-who was a baby and needed lots of attention, so I kind of became Circe's cat-mom and taught her everything she needed to know. Mommy lived with a man who was good to me but not to Mommy. They were together a long time and there was a lot of stress, but they both loved me and Circe. Circe went away for awhile-Mommy said she had to go over the Bridge, and then one day Circe came back as a new baby. We were friends again-I took care of her like I had before. Then one day, the man got real mean and hurt Mommy, and so they decided to break up. Mommy kept Circe and me, and we did just fine. About that time, Mommy brought home Keeter and I loved her-we had a lot of fun. Circe also helped take care of her because she was a baby. By that time, I'd caught an eye infection. Mommy kept taking me back to the doctor but no matter what he did, it just got worse and worse. Finally, he told Mommy that it was no use-my eye would have to come out. Mommy said to go ahead, if there was no choice, and the doctor took out my eye and sewed the lid shut, and the pain was all gone. I could still see climb around and run, and I got used to it really fast. We moved then, into a big bus on some land, but by that time, I was over 10 and getting tired, I just didn't have the stamina that I had when I was younger, and the stress of fighting the eye infection had weakened me. I knew that it was almost time to cross the bridge, so I decided I wanted to do it where Mommy couldn't see me-I didn't want her to be upset. That night, right before I was ready to go, I got the message from Lady Bast that my Mommy had been crying and crying for me, and so I went back to say goodbye. She held me all night long, and told me that if I needed to go, then I should, but that she'd always love me and if I wanted to come back I should. I left when she fell asleep near morning, and crossed the bridge. Everything was a blur for a long while, and then Lady Bast summoned me and told me it was time to go back, in a new body. She said that Circe had crossed the bridge too, and my Mommy and Keeter were lonely for us, even though there were two other new sisters there. Circe had to stay over the Bridge to help Lady Bast, but I was free to come back. I was born to a cat-mom named Nuit, and Mommy saw me being born and she knew right away that it was me-only I was wearing a black fur coat this time instead of blue one. Well, since my mom-cat had adopted friends of my Mommy's, she told them that I should come home with her when I was old enough, and they took care of me until I was eight weeks old and ready to leave. Mommy brought me home and Keeter knew me right away-only this time she was in charge, not me! We got to be good friends right from the first day. And a few days later, I got an eye infection in the left eye-the same one I'd lost before! Mommy panicked and took me to the doctor, but he cleared up the infection without a problem and I laughed because it was just one more way of telling Mommy that yes-it was me. She gave me my same name so I wouldn't get confused, and so I've lived happily with Mommy for almost eleven years this time. I was ten the first time I went over the Bridge, but I'm a lot healthier than I was the first time. I like being silly, and I like all my sisters (even that Tara who lives in Mommy's office), and I love Keeter and groom her all the time. I don't know how long I'll be with Mommy this time, but I hope we have a lot of years left. |
