Serendipity "Seren" Shojai

Seren

Rosemont in Sherman, Texas, USA.

I don't really remember my mom-cat, except she was warm and purred me to sleep and washed my face and snuggled me when I got scared. And I didn't pay much attention to her human, either -- I guess I was too small. Anyway, one day last summer my mom's human took me for a car ride, opened the door, and set me down outside--and drove away.

I was soooooo scared! And hungry. And itchy -- there were these buggy-things biting me inside my ears and my fur, and I couldn't stop scritchen. I cried and scritched and scritched and cried, and ran around looking for something familiar. I must have wandered around forever. Finally, I found a hidy-hole to sleep in, and curled up under some flowers in a pot on this stranger's back porch.

The stranger human found me the next morning--she had a human-kitten, a little girl I really liked! They gave me a bowl of milk . . . PURRR! . . . then telephoned another human for advice. I heard them say I was so pretty with my dark "points" and cream body and blue eyes. I was playing with the human-kitten when this advice-human arrived to see me.

And Oh! she liked me right away, I could tell! I climbed up in her lap, purred my loudest ever, and gave her my best head-butt and whisker kiss. That made her cry, though, so I purred louder while she told the other human that I looked like a Tonkinese--whatever that is--and probably was the product of a back-yard breeder who couldn't find me a home.

I went home with my new human that day--got my first bath, too, but I didn't mind cause it made the itchies go away. My new human said I'd been outside by myself for at least a week, and was lucky to be found.

I didn't stop eating for three days. My human says I was de-hy-drated; I think that's something like de-flated, like balloons. Anyway, I ate lots of good food (no more milk, though, cause my human said it wasn't good for me--imagine!) so I got re-inflated. And I was "adver-tized" too in case I got lost by accident and somebody was looking for me.

My human cried again when nobody claimed me--but she said it was happy relieved tears. She named me Seren, short for Serendipity, because my human says it was good luck all around that we found each other. We were meant to be. Of course, the other human we live with--he calls me Devil, cause sometimes I am! I'm only about 18 months old--I was maybe 3 months when I got dumped. My "Gotcha Day" is June 25. We made up a birthday--April 1--which is supposed to fit my personality, somehow. Humans are so silly!

Of course, I got "fixed" when I was 4 months old--I was glad, cause now I won't worry about my babies getting dumped, like me. I'm still pretty small; only 7 pounds. But that's plenty big enough to run things around here!

And guess what? I found out my human writes books and articles about cats so people learn how to take care of us! So of course, I became her editor--she really needed a cat-on-staff to make sure she writes everything down correctly.
