White Sauce

This recipe is about ratios, so this is the basic recipe. Increase each basic ingredient depending on how much you want. The yield is about the same amount of milk you use.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp flour (I use gravy flour)
  • 1 tbsp butter (I use low fat margerine)
  • 3/4 cut milk (I use 1% fat)
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper (I use a little more)
  • Other herbs, etc, to taste (I use some garlic, basil, oregeno; you have to play with it to own it.)

Preperation

  • Melt the butter over medium heat
  • Add the flour and mix well
  • Add the milk and other spices and mix constantly until you get a gravy texture

Variations

  • Server over rice or pasta
  • Include veggies, mushrooms, chicken, or ham (saute before adding sauce, then serve over pasta)
